Chocolate Breakfast Bowls

This is the ultimate chocolate lover's breakfast. 

 

Though it's sweetened only with whole dates, it's still a little on the decadent side, so maybe don't have it every day!  

The sweet notes are nicely balanced with healthy fats from avocado & chia, plus antioxidant & nutrient rich cocao & maca.

Top it with goodies such as coconut, shelled hemp seeds, chia seeds, nuts, gojo berries or cocao nibs for a killer, superfood breakfast!  

I love the beauty of these types of "breakfast bowls" - inspired by acai bowls - there is meditative experience & creative expression in the act of decorating your morning meal with lush ingredients that nourish the body and enrich the spirit.

Serves 2

2 cups unsweetened almond milk (or other non-dairy milk of your choice)

5 dates, pitted 

½ ripe avocado

¼ cup raw cacao powder (or more, to taste)

1 tablespoon raw maca powder

1 tablespoon chia seeds

¼ teaspoon cinnamon

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

1 cup ice

 

For best results, soak the dates overnight in the almond milk, so they'll be easy to blend. Alternately, you can soak them in hot water for 15 minutes (but you may lose some of the wonderful sweetness into your soaking water).

Place ingredients into your blender in the order listed. Secure the lid and blend until smooth.

 Serve in a bowl, and top with your favorite goodies!
